This case represents an EOF announcement only... the actual removal would be handled later by a subsequent case. There is time pressure to get this approved so the announce can make 2010.03 deadline, so a timely review by another Member would be appreciated.

Technical Description 1. Introduction 1.1. Project/Component Working Name: EOL of the MySQL 5.0 from OpenSolaris 1.2. Name of Document Author/Supplier: Author: Sunanda Menon 1.3 Date of this Document: 3rd March, 2010 1.4 Description This case announces the obsoletion of MySQL 5.0 in OpenSolaris. 5.1 is integrated with OpenSolaris for a little more than a year now and products like php5,lighttpd14 have been migrated to 5.1. MySQL has ended active development and support for MySQL Database Server version 5.0. However, there is still extended support available for paid customers with MySQL subscription only. For details, see http://www.mysql.com/about/legal/lifecycle/#calendar According to the MySQL Lifecycle Policy http://www.mysql.com/about/legal/lifecycle/#policy only Security and Severity Level 1 issues will still be fixed for MySQL 5.0. For the above reasons, it now makes sense to announce the EOL of MySQL 5.0 in Opensolaris. Since MySQL 5.1 has been a part of OpenSolaris for more than a year, users should move to 5.1 version. The plan is to announce the removal of MySQL 5.0 in OSOL.2010.03 (this case) and later remove it (to be covered in a future case). 1.5 Previous Relevant ARC cases LSARC/2007/608 - Include MySQL5.0 with OpenSolaris LSARC 2008/150 - Including MySQL 5.0 64bit and connectors with OpenSolaris LSARC 2009/062 - Including MySQL 5.1 with OpenSolaris 2. Technical Description MySQL 5.0 is a popular opensource database bundled with OpenSolaris. For a long time, various users/products were using MySQL 5.0 as their preferred database. With the inclusion of MySQL 5.1, it's expected that users now move to 5.1. Upgrade procedure to 5.1 has already been covered at the time of Including MySQL 5.1 in OpenSolaris (refer to LSARC/2009/062, section 5.1). Since MySQL has announced the EOL of 5.0, a warning message for the EOL of 5.0 is being targetted for OSOL.2010.03. 3. Interfaces All the MySQL 5.0 interfaces (refer to LSARC/2007/608 for complete list) are now marked with the Obsolete modifier. 4. References [1] [41]http://www.mysql.com/ 6.
