Please forgive my ignorance, but what does one get by running non-debug?
Or maybe a better question is what does it mean to run a debug build?

The current process only allows for what we call a debug build.

This build of Solaris has all of the extra bits compiled in for debugging (eg asserts turned on, extra checking, general debugging stuff etc). As you can imagine this adds overhead.

Compiling non-debug gets rid of this overhead.
