I guess i was not clear enough maybe. this would be of purely educational interest where people interested in the kernel can play around with a fun kernel which they can easily modify, compile, and run as a user program. no benefits whatsoever to an experienced developer or user. for example, smx was done as a university project, AFAIK.
a better example would be what i did a few years back, which is a solaris user mode port of linux. - http://six.sourceforge.net/. it would give a better picture of what i have in mind. i was wondering if it would be a worthwhile (read as "completable") project if the same was attempted for solaris, now that the source is open.
