Very interesting. I have a Sony VGSZ140 laptop with the same CPU and it works just fine (b40, b42). It also boots FreeBSD 6 and Linux 2.6.15 with both processors detected correctly, no problems. This may be a clue that the M.B./BIOS is coming into play somehow, but beyond that I don't have any suggestions.
