Hmm... I've been contemplating a MIPS port (as some now) for some time now.
In the embedded MIPS world, there are a few bootloaders available:
YAMON, RedBoot, PMON (and possibly others). These are pretty primitive
compared to some options, as they often lack support for actual
filesystem support, and often even lack support for ELF (eschewing it
for SRecord parsing.)
It would be nice if whatever architecture is chosen, includes some basic
portability for use in systems like Cobalt and newer high-end MIPS
boards (as well as potentially, ARM systems, etc.)
I had been considering OpenBIOS as a general purpose boot-loader
alternative (OpenBIOS being an "Open Source" OBP) for alternative
architectures, but am wondering now if Sun is going to be moving to some
other platform-neutral standard.
Can you provide PSARC case numbers (and are the materials public?)
Thanks!
