Before 1984.
In the fall of 1984 I used systems at MIT which were running TOPS-20
which had control-T support; some of the vaxes there ran a hacked bsd4.2
which copied the feature.
I have vague recollections that the feature (real-time status reports
bound to control-T) was also in RSTS/E (another DEC operating system for
the PDP-11), which I used in high school between 1980 and 1984.
