I haven't tried that for some time but when I was working with debug
OpenSSL libs I think I had to set more variables:
CTFCONVERT_O="" CTFMERGE_LIB="" COPTFLAG="-g" COPTFLAG64="-g" dmake install
I think those CTF* were needed as well but the situation might have
changed.
