promise anything, but I'll keep those on my personal list.

Good catch, if qt is not declared static, the symbol will be included and mdb 
will know it (using a recompiled snv_100 cron here):

echo 'qt,0t26/DDDD' | mdb -p $pid| head -2
cron`qt:
cron`qt:        100             2               60              0

For your purpose, that is sufficient - if you wanted to use type information in 
mdb (like I was assuming), I don't know any other way than including CTF 
information (and I'd be interested to learn if one exists).

BTW, here's an alternative to get the main cron pid (bash/ksh syntax):

pid=$(ptree $(pgrep cron)| head -1| cut -d\  -f1)
