It's true, I ported a Linux device driver to Solaris which included the ability
to read/write machine specific registers. However I am not at liberty to share
that work since it originated out of a third-party collaboration. Not a
satisfying answer to be sure, but I am a code monkey and not a lawyer and I
will err on the side of caution.
I have an MSR-read-from-ioctl hack I put together for experimenting. It
takes about a half a day to implement.
