Well then, a couple of scripts that would run all needed commands
to get everything ready (one to be run with privileges appropriate to
installing additional software like the compiler, one to be run as
whatever account was going to do the build) would be a nice gesture,
IMO.
The first of those could:
* install any needed IPS packages that weren't already installed.
* fetch (or at least open a window on the web site) the compiler
* install the compiler and any other required non-IPS software
There's a special group package for this called
developer/opensolaris/osnet (just 'osnet' works as well).
It doesn't take care of the compiler, since as far as I'm aware, the ON
version of the studio compiler is still not available in IPS. (Because
it's a patched one-off.)
If it was/is, I'm happy to add it to the osnet developer package. But
other than that, yes, ON and the pkg(5) gate both have maintained
developer group packages. I'm betting other consolidations will grow
them over time too.
Right, the CBE compiler has always been a "special" case :/
But the group package does handle everything else.
Cheers,
