I use the cap-eye install and it untars the kernel on
/platform/i86pc/kernel.new.
Then I issue reboot - 'kernel.new/unix' for a 32-bit boot but this still boots
up the old kernel. So the next thing I did was to modify the menu.lst to have 2
lines: -
 kernel$ /platform/i86pc/kernel.new/$ISADIR/unix
module$ /platform/i86pc/$ISADIR/boot_archive

This however gives me a grub error saying the boot-archive doesn't contain the
symbols for kernel.new.

Any ideas on how I can solve this problem?

Regards,
Bhaskar.
