in essence: boot in safe mode ('mini'). mount your partition (reported by safe
mode) on /a and edit menu.lst under /a/boot/grub to add -k to the 'kernel' line
of failing kernel. cd, unmount and reboot. This should drop you in a debugger
when the panic happens. type '$c' for call stack, '::msgbuf' to see the actual
message and '$q' to exit.
