I agree, but Solaris grew up under the auspices of a single company,
whereas Linux OS's naturally grew in multiple directions from the
beginning. Early on, Red Hat, Debian and Slackware, and now, Gentoo,
developed differing low-level base architectures. In contrast, the
first release of OpenSolaris already includes a standard base
architecture.
