I know there are a couple of minimal Linux LiveCDs that include mplayer (for playing DVD/CD/VCD) and the Firefox browser, but can be compressed into about 26 MB. One of our local Linux hackers showed me a complete Linux OS which can be squeezed into a 1.44 MB floppy disc. Some of the early Linksys routers (Linux based) have their entire system within 128K. (Linksys was later sold to Cicso for $500M.)
