AFAIK, you must configure the SATA controller to emulate
an old (P)ATA controller; then the Solaris ata driver (which
probably knows nothing about SATA - at this time) will be
able to use the SATA disk in compatibility mode.
I've no idea which chipsets allow their SATA controllers to
be configured in ATA emulation mode. Probably those that
appear in /boot/solaris/devicedb/master:
pci1095,3112 pci-ide msd pci ata.bef "Silicon Image 3112 SATA
Controller"
pci1095,3114 pci-ide msd pci ata.bef "Silicon Image 3114 SATA
Controller"
pci1095,3512 pci-ide msd pci ata.bef "Silicon Image 3512 SATA
Controller"
I'm using a SATA disk attached to a VIA VT8237 in IDE mode.
The controller is builtin into the chipset.
Runs just fine with b18 and above.
Eh, was that list above only for PCI addon cards?

I believe humans always sucked.
They just suck in different ways now.
