Umpf... we really need a mailinglist...

Excellent; your project request is seconded. You should hear from the
opensolaris.org staff within a few days. They will get your project
infrastructure created.

Generic question, posed to stimulate discussion:

How does/should this discussion forum/Project relate to the ARC
community?

Background:

From the ARC perspective, Projects exist to support the prototyping
and development of new features and changes to OpenSolaris. That
is, one would:

Create a Project to add a feature or make some change
Explore and discuss the goals of the project
        Prototype and prove concepts
Submit a spec to the ARC community for approval
        Implement for real
Integrate result into a community such as OpenSolaris.ON
Project concludes and is dissolved or reincarnates into
        a follow up project

I'm looking for mechanisms by which the ARC community can
effectively get/be involved in the review of project milestones:

        Concept/Creation:
The proposal to create a Project. Causes
<something> to happen that results in
a Project. The process of creating a Project
includes the initial notification to the ARC
community that a new project has been created.
It may be worth looking at the ARC's
one-pager template when crafting such proposals,
though the current version is a bit heavyweight
                to be used as-is:
                http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/arc/handbook/onepager/

        Plan/Inception:
The next step in the evolution of a proposal
into an initial spec. An opportunity for the
ARC community to provide timely architectural
feedback to the project so that it can develop
a higher quality/lower risk project spec.

        Plan/Commitment:
The ARC Community reviews, archives and approves
the project's architectural specs and completion
                criteria.

        Development/Fasttracks:
As development progresses, there needs to be an
easy way to update the approved specs to match
                changing requirements.

Delivery/Integration: Audit that the Project's deliverables
match the ARC approved specs as a precondition for
                integration.

        Retire/Disband:
The project concludes (for whatever reason) and is
no longer "on the radar" for OpenSolaris.
