We could up them now, but how do we know the values are optimal for all
machines now? In two years? In four? It's like we have a Mercedes with all
the greatest bells and whistles, yet there is still a manual choke knob on
square in the middle of the dash.
If somebody is looking for a project to jump on, this would be a good one
to fix by getting rid of the tunables altogether. There are a lot of folks
within Sun I know who have tunables like these on their "top 10 list of
things to set fire to", so there would be plenty of support for fixing it
permanently. :)
In the meantime there might already be something in the works to fix this
as low-hanging fruit, you might want to try perf-discuss.
