Not sure if anyone else has seen this sort of behavior or even if it happens for anyone else at all.
I am simply looking at two machines here, both Sparc. System 1 : hostname mars Sun Microsystems Inc. SunOS 5.11 snv_38 October 2007 $ cat /etc/release Solaris Nevada snv_38 SPARC Copyright 2006 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Use is subject to license terms. Assembled 17 April 2006 System 2 : hostname pluto pluto console login: dclarke Password: Last login: Mon Jul 24 14:38:37 from mars:0 Sun Microsystems Inc. SunOS 5.8 Generic Patch February 2004 $ cat /etc/release Solaris 8 2/04 s28s_hw4wos_05a SPARC Copyright 2004 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Assembled 08 January 2004 $ uname -a SunOS pluto 5.8 Generic_117350-39 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-2 $ I have a monitor and keyboard on mars but pluto is headless. I plunk myself in front of mars and I see a snazzy looking blue screen with the Solaris logo there in the central login window. Its not really a window it just looks to be highlighted in a smooth way at the top and bottom. Anyways .. its not the old CDE/dtlogin thing. It says "Welcome to mars" and a Username field and three buttons that say Session, Language and Options from left to right. I click on Options button and get a little window pop up that says : Choose an Action o Suspend the computer o Run XDMCP choose with a Cancel and OK button. I have no idea what the XDMCP option really entails but I know that I am looking for a remote server and not this .. so I go with that. boom ... the whole window goes white .. and then .. blue with a "X11 6.6.3" in the middle. This is rapidly replaced with a greyish-blue screen and an option dialog box that says "Choose a host to connect to:" and it lists : mars-dev 192.168.35.243 mars 192.168.35.123 pluto 192.168.35.100 and they all have a GNOMEish looking foot logo thingie to the left of them even though pluto is stock Solaris 8. Go figure. Well ... I want pluto so I double click on that and whammo ! white screen again followed by a quick blue flash and then the old familiar looking dtlogin screen of a Solaris 8 system. "cool" thinks I so I try to login .... and when I hit the enter key after my password .. whap ! white screen .. followed by ... blue screen with X11 6.6.3 in the middle and then .. back to the new login screen. ? any clues ?
