Already had the set pci_autoconfig:pci_boot_debug=1 setting but with input-device=keyboard output-device=screen console=text. I've now changed these and rebooted - I'll report back later.
One other observation I've made is that the system appears to hang after the same elasped time of 3h 53m. On another identical DL385, I've installed Solaris 10 01/06 and it is currently working without hanging at boot time or after a few hours. I'll give 06/06 another day on the other server before switching to 01/06.
