Well our system has been working flawlessly for the past 7 years with password hashes stored in /etc/passwd. Anyway, the folk doing the migration converted us to using shadow passwords today without telling us, so it looks like we'll just be copying the relevant lines from /etc/passwd and shadow to the new box.
