That's right. I'm not sure what exactly doesn't work, (more info or a bug report would be useful), but it's most likely caused by different versions of GNOME on your Linux and Solaris system. Believe or not, the GNOME team at Sun has been aware of these problems for years and that's probably why it's not so bad now as it was in the 2.0 days. I regularly use the same home directory with 2.6 and 2.17 and so far haven't noticed any issues.
