Two improvements where current work will benefit
developers/users:

1. OpenSolaris CODEC pack (very nice work)
2. SXCE b60/b61 (more Xorg 7.2 and kernel tweaks)

KPlayer 0.6.1 (KDE DVD GUI using Mplayer backend) and
GNOME-Mplayer 0.4.3 (GNOME DVD GUI using Mplayer
backend) allow nicer front-end GUIs to the Mplayer
1.0rc2 backend.

I've targeted SXCE b60/b61 since I'm mainly reviewing
various video drivers with DVD playback under Xorg
7.2. I've had excellent playback quality using Sun's
24" HDTV monitor with both HD-DVD/Blu-Ray quality
1080p playback (1920x1080p) which was my initial test
display for the Sun Ultra 40 workstation. The
video/audio CODECs used with Mplayer 1.0rc2 and some
proprietary ones provide you with most of the tools
you need to watch and listen to the majority of media
content out there (even Windows Media 9 content).
