If you just want to use OpenSolaris, then just install it from the
media, and you are good to go.
If, however, you want to actually develop (make changes to the
OpenSolaris source code
itself), then my blog suggests one of the ways that can be done - create
a scratch partition so
that you don't happen to nuke your own kernel if something goes wrong,
and install your
modified kernel (from the workspace that you created) on the scratch
partition.
