There are people outside Sun who would be able to work on this project, but of
course they would act slower than fully payed people from inside Sun. Fully
payed externals would still be slower but they will be able to teach new people
outside of Sun....

And it did show that something could be organized more effective inside Sun.
It looks as if it is easier to follow departement interests instead of Sun
interests.
If Sun did run this project in the open, it did have less code ready a year
ago but it did have more code ready today. In addition, an open project would
have created hot spots of excellence spread over the world.
If Sun like to come back to where it has been until 1995, Sun needs to find
a way to effectively aproach many people in a short time. This will not happen
if OpenSolaris distribution or porting projects are sponsored inside Sun but
outside Sun. Sun cannot pay thousands of OSS developers from the community, but
Sun may sponsor people who are workingon projects that help to approach new
people for help with the OpenSolaris project.
