If the choice really is between "change the default units for df output" and "have a small community," then it's clear. I'd opt for the latter. We have no way of finding all the scripts that depend on details like that, nor do any of our customers. The only thing we could do would be to smoke 'em out of their caves: deliberately break the interface (violating our stability promises -- and losing whatever trust we may have had) and see what happens when the smoke clears. Perhaps not a good way to do engineering. I think that's actually a false dichotomy, and that we need to be a lot smarter about what we change, and why, and what interfaces we present to users, but if our future really does hinge on something that trivial, then we're already long past dead. -- James Carlson, Solaris Networking <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sun Microsystems / 1 Network Drive 71.232W Vox +1 781 442 2084 MS UBUR02-212 / Burlington MA 01803-2757 42.496N Fax +1 781 442 1677 _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
