It is obvious why I created a distribution:

It was done in order to create a distribution as none
did exist before.

Why did other people create _different_ distributions?

Jorg & Others,

The reason behind different distros is much like why
we have different versions of similar products like
cereal, paint, shoes, houses, cars, jobs and many
other things. We have a choice. You may like
'spearmint' gum and I like the 'wintergreen' version
of the same product.

I would hope we walk away from personal attacks on
each other's distros or commentary styles of
grammatical communication. This just tends to fuel
flame wars in a much grievous nature instead of
motivating key developers. Yet, we should refrain from
pointing fingers at Sun or Sun employees as well as
community members. BOTH sides are very important to
the success of the OpenSolaris project no matter WHO
or WHOM is funding the project (or distro).

We all have our personalities... let us not isolate
members but try to understand WHY they are speaking
out. Maybe misperceptions or miscommunication? I'd
hope as professionals in our fields we would welcome
open communication and feedback.

I never knew if Jorg ever got a proper response to his
questions which is probably why he keeps asking the
same ones (or variations of those questions) - as well
as many other people within this forum.

More of this was based on understanding how to support
Schillix back then, and then having the time to do it.
Nothing based on Jorg or his personality. I think it
was the same for certain Linux distros and even the
OpenSolaris distros today. The processes, procedures,
documnetation, and established toolkits were not in
place when Schillix was first created. Many people
didn't understand the Solaris kernel enough to warrant
massive interest or have the tools to properly do so
(remember Sun Studio). Jorg built a toolkit. Then, we
needed to port code between Solaris Express and
Schillix but libs were missing or closed binaries not
available to the public developer community. That was
more of the REAL reasons why Schillix couldn't be
properly supported back then (i.e. 2002-2005). Not
Jorg's personality.

Jorg got upset probably because he couldn't get the
support he 'felt' he needed. I think things took a
wrong turn after that which fueled the flames.

Now with fancy build systems and toolkits, we probably
can support Schillix better than we could a few years
ago. An automated process approach instead of manual.
I'd think its more of asking Jorg what he needs or
requires to keep developing Schillix (if HE want to)
and go from there instead of pulling out the almighty
sledgehammer and bashing his head.

Back to those days of simple user requirements...
