The short answer is, "yes", but I'd like to qualify that with a caveat. I use a SunFire v20z to run web, mail, VPN, smb and other file services, etc. on my home network. I have 4 Gigs of Ram in this puppy and use a mirrored zfs pool for the main file system, and 5 500GB drives in a Raid5z pool for the nightly backup of all machines and general network file usage. I use an external hardware firewall/router and will continue doing so unless something changes (it dies, etc.)
This thing has been running flawlessly for a couple of years and I've never seen it break a sweat. However, keep in mind that zfs seems pretty memory consumptive. My memory utilization is around 3.8 Gigs of the 4Gigs available It give it up when needed, but I don't know how much it really needs. I had 2 Gigs in for awhile and had problems, but that could be more because of some flakiness in a SATA controller driver that has since been fixed.
