Requested a free copy of the Solaris Express Developers Edition DVD several weeks back and it installed quite easily and all. But my ethernet is Rhine II (on the mobo), and the Rhine II drivers have not yet made it into the distribution.
Call me superstitious if you want, but I would prefer to compile the Rhine II drivers myself, rather than just load Mr. Maruyama's binary blob into my system. (I don't have anything against Mr. Maruyama, I just have a policy about this kind of thing and don't want to break it. You start making exceptions, and pretty soon you don't know where to stop.) I got the source for his drivers from his web pages at http://homepage2.nifty.com/mrym3/taiyodo/eng/ but I don't have the files those depend on, and he doesn't tell where to get them -- files such as sys/common/sys/mac.h sys/common/sys/mac_ether.h sys/common/sys/mac_impl.h sys/common/sys/mac_wifi.h These and similar files were not part of the tool chain on the DVD. (In fact, the tool chain on the DVD seems more of a bare minimum tool chain for students from my cursory examination. Maybe I missed something?) Rather than do really dodgy things like extracting headers from the HTML on Robert Watson's fxr.watson.org, stripping the line numbers, and hoping the headers there were the right ones, and are sefl- contained, I'm hoping somebody on the list could point me to some discussion on compiling these drivers. Anybody care to throw me a clue? Point me to a more appropriate list? -- Joel Rees (waiting for a 3+GHz ARM processor to come out, to test Steve's willingness to switch again.) _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
