Awesome - this works fine now. Lots of grumbling about asy0,1 and UARTs but b77 installs and comes up like a dream. SXDE still doesn't like it though. For the benefit of Googlers out there this was an Acer Aspire 5633WLMi with a Core 2 Duo T5500 and Intel 945GM chipset.
