Hans/Matt, One more post on this: I got this via back-channel from one of the MacOS CIFS developers, and it sounds like the experiment could help solve this. We've tested a lot with Samba on Linux and Solaris, but not so much with MacOS's Samba.
-- ... looking at it I don't see why our server is disconnecting. Really should get them to raise the Samba log level on the Mac and then get us the smbd.log file.
