I would like to propose for a complete Open Source Magazine covering Sun
Technologies, something similar to *Linux For U*, so that we can take
Sun Technologies , not only to the student community but also to end-users.
I enlist below some features , i found in Linux For U:
1. Features of new releases and distributions of Linux
2. How to install Linux and its desktop experience.
3. Tutorials on building Live CDs
4. New softwares that have come up for Linux, and where to get them,
how to use them
5. Industry news from the Open-Source world ( They had discussed
about "Sun : A friend or a foe")
6. How to tweak various hidden features of Linux
7. They include some cutting edge technologies like "Thread on a
chip", Red Hat clusters, HPC etc.
8. Various tools available for developers
9. Interviews of Open-Source Technologiy Leaders ( e.g. those from
the KDE community)
10. Readers submit their views and queries about their problems, whose
answers come in the issue
11. Linux community gets an idea what people expect new from Linux
12. It gives young writers a chance to express their experience,
innovative ideas.
I feel that Linux For U has been one of the principal factors in
popularizing Linux, making people aware of Open-Source( atleast in Asia,
since it claims to be Asia's largest Open-Source magazine). I would also
like to tell at this point that even people of Sun write articles for
this magazine.
Linux For U also invites ads from many companies dealing with
open-source technologies, from institutes providing Linux training. So,
I think the magazine will also boost institutes which provide Solaris
training.
I feel that if some magazine of this kind comes out, would go a long
way in taking Sun technologies to the people
Regards,
samir
