Ken, you are missing the point. There is no port required. The only difference between the professional and home versions is the license conditions. Someone on sci.math.symbolic has said the linux binaries are exactly the same, byte-for-byte. Wolfram Research claim it is exactly the same program, just licensed differently.
Since the issue is about a cheap 'Home' edition of a product, talk of large maintenance contracts is out of place. The issue is why the company have made a lower-cost 'home' edition available for all their supported platforms except for Solaris. I just noticed today on the sage-developer mailing list, someone has noticed if you type 'sage math' into Google there is a sponsored link from Wolfram Research for the Home Edition of their product. Some someone searching for the free open-source program Sage will see an ad for the cheap (home) edition of Mathematica. It is quite ironic really, as anyone clicking the link will cost Wolfram Research money, which they will pay to Google. But Google, happen to be one of the companies sponsoring Sage!! So in some very small way, Wolfram Research and sponsoring the production of a free version! You must admit, that is quite funny. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
