Think the short ansawer is Linux is an easier name to remember....this sounds flippent but Opensolaris is a brand name not pushed or marketed for sometime by Sun and has dropped off the radar for some as a legacy mainframe dinasure..Decision makers want to prove themselves by having something new and better to engender change and value..yes also internal politics.Linux is now more familiar as an O/S from consumer experiences however the link between home use and decisions to buy in the market place is well accepted.Development on laptops and mobile devices will bring Opensolaris universal recognition. However you need to play the game of marketing which sun is very unsucessful at.
Reinventing Unix is a sound proposition it takes time money and expertise. Most people will struggle to recognise any brand name in the linux market.Consumers can only spell Sun or Linux at the mo..the challenge is to re educate? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
