Please don't laugh...I used a new cable from my Dell laptop (not mine, belongs
to the company I work for), and never checked it. As soon as I changed the
cable, I was able to ping my router. I still could not get to the internet, as
deamon was not up - as I did not know how to start it, I re-started the
computer, and - bingo!
Can you examine the cable with a meter to see if it is a crossover?
If so, we should check to see if MDIX is working properly in the PHY handler
for the nge driver.
