This is an old issue of mine but I figured I'd post the resolution. This is a bug in the Areca Firmware. They have yet to publish a new version on their site (as of 7-22-2009), but support may be able to get it to you. Mine has the version of 1.47. I had to send the drives it wasn't working with to Taiwan but they figured it out.
