Johnny, I don't know if they still do it but older sparc machines would force the same mac address on all nics in the machine. There is an OBP variable that will undo this feature and allow the router to pass the ICMP response. From Sun's OBP command reference:
local-mac-address? false (default) If true , network devices use their own MAC addresses.
