Toshiba are please to announce that our leading range of business laptops is
the first in the UK to be available with OpenSolaris 2008.11 pre-installed. The
laptops will be available for purchase directly through Sun following a joint
partnership to offer ‘best of breed’ technologies.
The latest version of the OpenSolaris platform is ideal for software developers
as its built-in features help build, debug and deploy new applications faster –
enabling users to release applications and services to the market as quickly as
possible. The open-source format of OpenSolaris also allows developers to scale
their needs using a proven system that supports mission critical applications.
Ken Chan, Senior Product Manager, Toshiba UK said: “Toshiba invests heavily in
research and development and it shows in our products - we have been able to
integrate various technologies and provide greater innovation at lower price
points. The OpenSolaris 2008.11 option will allow us to offer business
professionals exactly what they demand - an even broader range of computing
choices.”
Toshiba offers two models to support OpenSolaris 2008.11: the Tecra M10 and the
Portégé R600. Both are tailored for business requirements with Toshiba
EasyGuard, which further enhances and protects the laptops through features
such as a shock protected chassis. A sealed spill resistant keyboard on the
Portégé R600 protects against accidental spillage and both models offer the
Toshiba 3D Accelerometer that responds to freefalls, shocks and vibrations to
protect and prolong the life of the hard drive.
