well I just installed my favorite flavor of opensolaris SCXE and I find that option menu to select terminal from the desktop is still broken and probably will not be fixed, also it seems that staroffice now upon selecting a document type will immediately bring up the document recovery panel and never allow you to start working with a document.

Every time you start staroffice the document recovery panel displays.

Then StarOffice thinks you have documents that need recovering. If you don't, that would be a StarOffice bug, which is most likely nothing to do with the version of Solaris you're running.

Are we seeing a trend that is trying to force all users that love SXCE to the bland version of OS? Gnome is the butt ugliest interface but we can't have any branding on the Free OS interface.

GNOME in OpenSolaris is branded just as much as GNOME in SXCE. It's just that SXCE uses the older Sun Blueprint theme, while OpenSolaris uses the newer Sun Nimbus theme, with a couple of different defaults, any of which you're free to change to suit yourself. (I can only think of one actual branding 'feature' in SXCE that hasn't made it into OpenSolaris, and to my knowledge, nobody has complained that they're missing it.)
