Wouldn't it be preferable to create the temp file in your home directory?
Or maybe you're not assuming root has a home directory ...

I know that when I install solaris, one of the first things I do is to
create /root directory, and change root's home to /root.  No need to clutter
up / with all those pesky little .hidden directories and stuff.
