Do you really think that Oracle will be running on anything less than a
multi-core and multi-socket Sparc server? I am certain that Solaris, as
a
server OS, will be around for a nice long time. Certainly Fujitsu would
also expect it to be.
I am not sure whether you know what before OpenSolaris exists, Sun did
have a lot of people (mainly interested in server appications) that did
beta testing. This was continued with the SXCE series of the Solaris
developer edition. Now, SXCE is withdrawn. What kind of impression do you
believe this creates?

I think the confusion is this:
Whatever (and whenever) Solaris 11 (aka Solaris Next) actually ships as
a product, it will be based on what is currently known as OpenSolaris.
HOWEVER, it's not just going to be some snapshot of OpenSolaris,
productized and tested.
I can't say what Solaris Next will include, and I'm not sure anyone can
at this point. I would expect that at some point when there has been
sufficient discussion (here and with paying customers and potential
customers) as to exactly what featureset is available and desired, that
we will fork off a new Solaris Next set from OpenSolaris, finish testing
and final featureset/polishing on that forked copy (I would expect some
things be added, and some removed, from the OpenSolaris code its based
on). Given the current state of SXCE, I don't see any way that it
could have continued and eventually turned into Solaris Next.
Note that I have no special mind-reading abilities here, nor do I speak
for Sun as an organization. Rather, this is my reading of the tea leaves.
