I think this is just a local activity from Sun's Tel Aviv office. BTW I don't think Sun's Israel unit is officially merged into Oracle yet??? But as Edward mentioned in a separate thread, Oracle is going to announce it first post-Sun-acquisition earnings today. There are speculations that Oracle "is expected to post significant gains in profit and sales", including "solid demand for its Exadata high-performance appliance": http://www.marketwatch.com/story/oracle-seen-posting-sharp-profit-sales-gains-2010-06-23?reflink=MW_news_stmp or http://tinyurl.com/orcl4q Living in Honolulu (we have one of the largest military concentrations in the world), I couldn't avoid hearing chatters (which are totally unfounded rumors, of course) that the DoD is very gung-ho on non-x86-based Exadata machines--greatly increased attention on security being a primary reason. But even if the above-cited report is true, I still think Oracle needs to carefully re-evaluate the directions that have been take wrt OpenSolaris (disclaimer: I own a non-trivial number of ORCL). I have always believed that the main purpose of the Open Solaris project is, first and foremost, to ensure the life of the Solaris kernel. But for some reason, the OpenSolaris project have evolved to have a life of its own, and has been trying to compete in an area that it has no chance of success (and no business of competing). OTOH, the Solaris proper and the environment surrounding it have changed substantially, and many of reasons for the existence of the Open Solaris are no longer very relevant. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
