Hi,
I work as linux/solaris sysadmin in a large enterprise. We have Netscape
Directory Server, way too old and outdated. Sometimes it crashes,
with no info in logfiles.

So, I have a task from my management to choose an new Directory Server for our
company. We a kinda big - 20k Employees, mail auth from
Directory Server, a lot of internal software systems is constantly sending
their requests to the Netscape DS.

And, having searched web regarding Enterprise-grade DS`s, I found several
alternatives:
- Sun JSDS;
- Fedora DS from RedHat;
- eDirectory from Novell;
- Tivoli from IBM;
- Oracle Internal Directory from IBM;

OpenSourced projects like OpenLDAP, OpenDS are not being taken into this list,
`cos management is need to be sure, that we could get payed
support 24x7.

And, requirements are simple - I have noted above the quantity of users, and
how it will be used; we need replication ability; backup
ability; storing info in DB is a plus (I think it`s more reliable than some
weird internal format for data files, etc.).

Although, my company prefers linux & IBM stuff, I think I have chances to
promote Sun`s products, if I knew theirs strong sides, related to
others.

I am admired by Solaris and related products, but in such circumstances I
kindly ask you to "not-holywar", and argumented answers, if you
interested. If other products I mentioned is more preferred in my case, than
Sun ones - pls, tell me the truth :)

Thanks a lot!
