I just experimented with installing SXCE build 91 to an 
8GB USB flack memory stick.  There was nothing special
about it, a normal installation using the usb flash memory
device as the installation target. I used a zfs root fs.

I guess OpenSolaris 2008.05 isn't that much different...

What doesn't work well is if you connect the USB flash
memory device to a different USB port than the one
used during installation, and try to boot from it.

Or connect the USB flash memory device to a different
computer and try to boot from it.

In these cases boot panics with  "spa_import_rootpool: error 22"

Boot from the USB flash memory device only works on the
original computer, on the usb port that was used during installation.
