i've been building up a system using the latest developer 1/08 sparc on a sun ultra 60
surprise, a number of important things aren't working right -- and to make them work right apparently i will be needing to learn a lot of new stuff that i didn't need for solaris 9 such as: it would seem that i am supposed to start up services using smf instead of /etc/init.d etc. frankly, this is not a confidence builder -- it gives me a very negative ms windows kind of a feeling, but worse, the tools for doing this are not there or don't work and the information i need seems to be unavailable in google searches i want to do a very simple thing, like starting up ipv6 on reboot without having to ifconfig ...plumb up at the console, but no, there's a stigma on putting things like this into scripts so i have to learn xml i want to do a very simple thing, like starting up named on reboot without having to named ... at th console, but no, there's a stigma against startup scripts, so ... worse yet, whether i am in gnome or cde, all the system admin menu items are broken on installation when i check my filesystems using format it tells me that they are all ufs and not the zfs i was expecting to see; what's with that im going to need a whole lot of handholding from the community for a while if i am not going to be forced to junk solaris in favor of debian specific question: where is some of the information i need to overcome the "as-installed" and "right out of the box everything is broken" experiences that i am having?
