Where did you get Samba from? If you are simply trying to share files with a Windows machine without logging the Solaris computer into a domain, then you do not need to download a separate version of Samba - there is already a version of Samba installed as part of Solaris 10.
To use the Solaris-provided version of Samba: 1. Create a file /etc/sfw/smb.conf (perhaps using /etc/sfw/smb.conf-example as a template). 2. Create a test user using /usr/sfw/bin/smbpasswd . 3. Start Samba using the command "svcadm start samba". You will need to remove (or at least stop) any other version of Samba on your system. Cheers Andrew. This message posted from opensolaris.org
