Well I definitely shared the folder as its available on other machines.

Alright so Ive completely erased that installation and tried over.  I installed 
111b from the livecd, then upgraded to 118.


I then created a raidz2 array again, then created a filesystem named backup.  

I then loaded the CIFS modules, shared backup, created a group called 'datum', 
added a user 'moo' to 'datum' in CIFS.

Alright so if I right click on the folder 'backup' and go to permissions, it 
says its owned by 'root'

So I did chmod 777 /storage/backup .

This now allows me to create folders, however I cannot write to files in those 
folders.  


I wish someone had a guide written up explaining how to achieve reasonable 
results.

Ive done this in linux, some reason this isn't working out here...
