I'm trying to rip a cd to add it to my ipod on my laptop. I've installed gtkpod and that seems to work ok, I have added some mp3s I already had. However, ripping CDs to add to it gives a few problems.
When I insert a CD, it suggests running Sound Juicer. However, sound juicer says it can't access /dev/dsk/c3t0d0s2 because of insufficient privilege. If I start it as root it can but that's clearly not desirable. I don't know how to change the permissions because it's just a link to a device (do I just change the permissions on the device?). I'd prefer to use Grip anyway. I've installed that from pending repository but it says it can't access the /dev/cdrom device (I presume it defaults to this because of linux origins). I've tried linking /dev/cdrom to the /dev/dsk/.. but that doesn't seem to work. I've installed the media players from lifewithsolaris and they can't access the disk either because of insufficient privilege. If I right click on the disk icon and choose Sound Juicer from the "open with" list it works, but all the other options give the usual errors. So, what can I do to make it accessible to the programs that can see it but don't have sufficient privilege to read it (and why does SJ have enough privilege when run from the link via the icon but not any other way)? And is there a way I can enable Grip to see it? I don't know where it's mounted - it doesn't seem to be under either /media or /cdrom. Thanks - Paul -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
