You cant upgrade a Single Package. The whole Gnome environment is dependent on shared objects ( libraries ) that is used by many consumer apps. If you change the libs for one app several other apps will stop working if Gnome loads at all.
Also A newer GIMP needs a newer version of GTK+ I dont remember were the break is but probably close to gnome 2.12 or 2.14 You cant install gimp from Gnome 2.20 onto Gnome 2.6 you would need to Back-Port it. The only way to do it is to use a separate hierarcy of packages. Therefore you can install Blastware Gnome and Gimp in /opt/CSW which is wholly separated from the Solaris 10 Gnome 2.6 environment.
