Sorted: Dont know why but the /etc/hosts needed a FQDN in it, rebooted and sendmail came online. I then removed it again and rebooted, svcs reports sendmail still online... after many reboots sendmail is fine. ( still with no FQDN in hosts file). This message posted from opensolaris.org
