@ jabrewer: But I try to upgrade from nv81, and there were some problems telling me that the update was 'partial', see above; and the lucreate also had run into errors.
@skg: The new installer offers a single extra slice, s4, only. Also, what I meant is exactly not luactivate nv91 and reboot; because this is where the panic was forthcoming last time. What I meant, and as far as I understand until here, that as long as I don't do luactivate, I can of course lucreate and luupgrade as long as I like, since they don't touch the current BE at all (correct?), there is no fear for loss of the installation. Since I lost my install last time after the luactivate, I had suggested to boot the new BE (nv91) in a virtual environment from my current (and working) BE of nv81. If it panics, I can fdisk that slice (s4), and try again. Once I have luactivate BE nv91, it is too late if it doesn't boot. Thanks for your patience, I think I'll wait for nv92 or nv93, maybe the live_upgrade is going to achieve an error-free upgrade, Uwe, who still considers a HowTo missing; one like we have for zones, or even branded zone, e.g., pointing out step-by-step how to use it. Roman (and me here) had found that we had to assemble the bits and pieces from here or there, with still some questions left unclear. This message posted from opensolaris.org
